Rationale of Test

Used to assess motor coordination of young animals when challenged on a sloped surface.

Testing apparatus consists of sloped platforms of varying angles (20deg, 30deg, 40deg, or 50deg) from horizontal to the desktop. Performance on the task is video recorded an analyzed off-line.

Mice are placed on the sloped platform facing in a downward direction. The latency to turn and orient themselves to be facing up the slope is recorded. This can be repeated at varying inclines to assess motor coordination and righting.

Delays in the ability to reorient could be indicative of delays in motor, balance, or vestibular function.
